Wisdom from a Decade of Being Mom, Entrepreneur and Community Strategist with Amy Wine
Are you an entrepreneur feeling overwhelmed by the demands of your business? Do you find yourself struggling to maintain your sanity while trying to build a thriving community? In a recent episode of Couch Time with Amy Wine, I had the opportunity to peel back the layers of my journey and share insights that can help you create not just a successful business, but a fulfilling life as well. With over a decade of experience in entrepreneurship, I’m excited to share our conversation in this podcast episode.
Build Your Business Around Your Life
One of the hardest lessons I learned was the importance of building my business around my life, not the other way around. As a high achiever, I found myself working long hours to meet goals that others had set for me. It took time to realize that my true priorities were my family and the time I wanted to spend with them. By setting clear boundaries on my work hours—like committing to just 25 hours a week—I was able to create a business that supports my life rather than consumes it.
Define Your Own Success
Success looks different for everyone, and it’s crucial to define what it means for you personally. For me, it was about more than just financial milestones; it was about having the time freedom to be present for my family. I learned to let go of the pressure to achieve what others deemed successful and instead focused on what truly mattered to me. This shift in mindset allowed me to find fulfillment in my work without sacrificing my family life.
Prioritize Relationships
As entrepreneurs, we often get so caught up in our business goals that we neglect our personal relationships. I received invaluable advice early in my journey: protect your marriage. I realized that a strong relationship with my husband was essential for my overall happiness and success. By prioritizing our connection and making time for each other, I found that I could better manage the demands of my business without feeling guilty about neglecting my family.
Embrace the Joy of Work
Many people view work as a burden, but it can be a source of joy and fulfillment. I’ve learned to embrace my work as a passion rather than a chore. When I’m engaged in my business, I feel energized and inspired, which ultimately benefits my family as well. By finding joy in what I do, I can show up as my best self for both my clients and my loved ones.
Create a Family Culture
Just as I focus on building community in my business, I also apply those principles at home. My husband and I have discussed what our family culture looks like and what values we want to instill in our children. By being intentional about our family dynamics, we create a supportive environment that mirrors the thriving communities I help build in my work. This alignment between my personal and professional life has been incredibly rewarding.
Work-Life Balance
Balancing entrepreneurship and family life is no small feat, but it is possible with the right mindset and strategies.
