A Legacy of Community Building with Dan Miller
There are some people in your life who you encounter for just a brief moment, but they leave a really lasting impact. Dan Miller was one of those people for me. When I first met Dan, he attended my in-person community training workshop. He took a moment to pull me aside and tell me something that stuck with me forever. He told me that I was brilliant and was going to be very successful, which of course I appreciated. But then he looked me straight in the eyes and kindly told me, "Protect your marriage. You're a strong, brilliant, successful woman, and that is going to put a strain on your marriage. So be proactive and protect it."
In the years that followed, I realized just how true Dan's advice was. Being an entrepreneur can be demanding and all-consuming, and it's easy for your personal life to suffer. But Dan understood the importance of maintaining a healthy marriage while pursuing success.
Dan and I stayed in touch over the years, and I was devastated when he emailed me in December to tell me that he had terminal cancer. Just a few days before I recorded this podcast introduction, exactly 48 days after his diagnosis, Dan transitioned to heaven. In honor of his memory, I want to share with you a previous podcast interview I had with Dan.
In this episode, we discussed his incredible community, the 48 Days Eagles Community, and how he created a collaborative environment for its members. While listening to this episode, make sure to pay attention to how Dan ran his communities and how his legacy of community building will be remembered.
The Power of Community:
Dan emphasized the importance of surrounding yourself with like-minded individuals who can support and encourage you on your entrepreneurial journey. Building a community is not just an afterthought, but a core principle for success.
Shared Expertise:
In Dan's community, he didn't want to be the sole expert. He recognized the value of having members with diverse skills and talents who could contribute to the group's collective wisdom. This collaborative approach fosters growth and success for everyone involved.
Monday Mentor Sessions:
Dan implemented a weekly session called Monday Mentors, where members could learn from experts in various fields. These sessions provided valuable insights and allowed members to ask questions and engage in meaningful discussions.
Creating a Culture of Collaboration:
Dan actively encouraged members to share their expertise and promote each other's businesses. By fostering a culture of collaboration rather than competition, the community thrived and members supported one another's growth.
Continual Learning and Growth:
Dan's community was not just about one-time events or trainings. It provided ongoing support and resources for members to continue learning and growing in their businesses. This ongoing engagement and momentum led to long-term success stories.
