How To Create A Thriving Community- Part 1
I'm always hearing the same question: "Shana, how do I make my community thrive?" It's like people are looking for that one Facebook post or the latest trendy strategy that will magically transform their community into a thriving hub where members stick around for the long haul. But here's the truth: it's not about quick fixes and fancy tactics.
What really makes a community strong, sticky, and poised for growth are the foundational elements. These are the building blocks I've discovered through over a decade of diving into the world of communities, both online and offline, fueled by my deep love for all things community-related.
I like to call it the Community Cultivated Framework ™, and it's rooted in my extensive research. What I've found is that there are four essential pillars every thriving community has. These elements are the bedrock, the very foundation of lasting success.
The first of the four pillars is, Cause. Cause is like the bedrock of a flourishing community, and it always outshines common interests, hands down. If you're missing this crucial ingredient, you'll face a real uphill battle when trying to grow your community. But when you have it in place, it's like throwing fuel on a fire. This is a reality we've seen throughout history in all sorts of communities. It has this incredible power to bring together people from all walks of life, uniting them with a shared purpose.
To incorporate a strong cause into your community strategy, focus on three key elements: Purpose, Path, and Progress.
Building a thriving community involves aligning your members around a clear purpose, which acts as a unifying force. A cause-driven community, as opposed to one based solely on common interests, creates a stronger, more committed, and impactful group that can weather challenges and stand the test of time.
To guide your community towards success, it's crucial to provide not only a well-defined purpose but also a clear path and measurable markers of progress. Ensuring that your members understand why they are part of the community, how to navigate their journey within it, and how to track their advancement towards shared goals is key to long-term engagement and success.
Having a common cause generates momentum, and momentum leads to action, creating progress. Progress is the ultimate goal, not just engagement.
Make sure you come back to learn about the 2nd pillar in the next article. If you struggle with uncovering the cause in your community , the Cultivate Course is for you!
